No Stupid Questions

I’m sure someone won’t be happy about this post but I don’t know where else to post about it. I was on YouTube looking for educational content about Procyon (a star) and I stumble across this shit. What in the Heaven’s Gate fuck am I looking at? This led me to the dude’s website. His site, I’m pretty sure is at least partially written by LLM’s. I definitely spotted some AI “art”. He’s peddling his shitty probably AI written book and you can book a session with him for $222 AUD. Genuinely, what the fuck is this? Is it a cult, some scam, or some mentally ill individual?

I was just sitting at the mall taking a break from mall walking. A man walked over to me when I wasn’t even looking up. He said “I haven’t seen you here before. " I said I wasn’t really here to talk to people and got up and walked away. He said he would leave, he may even have said sorry. I said I was ready to leave anyway. In retrospect I think he may have just been slightly mentally challenged so I wish I had been a little softer, he did not turn out to be aggressive. Looking for suggestions on something still clear and firm but more polite? This scared me for some reason, I think how fast he walked up and sat down near me.

I would like to move to NY for reasons. Doesn’t have to be the city, thought in or near (or generally metropolitan) preferred, and I would like to move as soon as realistically and feasibly possible (I’m not getting rid of all my shit, hopping on a plane, and arriving in NYC, even if that is as soon as possible).

Airplanes deploy revers thrusters when landing which are basically just shaped metal shields that move into place behind the engines to provide reverse thrust and slow the plane.

I have a challenge, can you distinguish which character set/s belongs to Japanese & Mandarin?

Just never really heard of anyone in all my years go to their PCP and get an “upper”. But have heard a bunch go to their doctor’s for something for less anxiety, make you sleepy, methadone, morephine hell even now weed. and again NOT SEEKING MEDICAL ADVICE. Only one I have heard of is a B12 shot but that’s probably replaced by the vitamin.

I’m able to turn into metal, specifically steel. My skin can fully turn into steel i’m also bulletproof and durable. I have super strength, and my max limit is 700 tons, though I can fly up to Mach 195. I also have super speed when running, and my top speed is Mach 195.

I mean this in a way to give a child the best start at life. Instead of having to worry about heart disease or addiction or something else. And if people have an immunity to one thing that the other does not. We take the gene from the first person to create a medicine for the other person. I think it gets a bad rap because Hitler. To put it another way. If a person who is 80 and has an immunity to diabieties or cancer or whatever. And we can take that gene and put it into a new born so the kid never has to worry about it.

I have had many dogs and I liked more of them sometimes I did my own family. How come I am let off lightly. If I go next door and shoot my neighbor’s dog or went down the whole subdivision kill all the dogs or cats. Shouldn’t I face a sever penalty. And mistreatment of them should carry the same weight as mistreatment to a minor?

Like is the birthaday 9 months after september 11, 2001 a rare birthday?

One of my deam goals is to bonsai a Clove tree, Syzygium aromaticum. It would be so wonderful to have a tiny fragment tree to warm my house. Unfortunately, the seeds don’t take when they dry and I can’t, for the life of me, find a place that sells saplings. Does anyone happen to know a place I could get one?

I get there is an efficiency factor but it doesn’t take more time at home to par boil before frying, it’s just reversing the order. Instead of frying then steaming, you steam then fry and get a much crispier skin on it, so why is this never recommended?

I was curious after I looked into this prop. Unlike the SAVE act, which would disenfranchise a lot of people, Prop 39 would require the state to give voter ID cards to everyone who requests one which resolves a big issue.

I guess what I was trying to get at. Why isn’t there a NAAFAP. For All People? Having specialized groups kind of seems we are going back to segregation again. Why not everyone one be equal and everyone should be happy.

Hi, maybe I’m old school but i did not appreciate Google replacing their old “Google assistant” on Android with the new Gemini. I do not want to participate in Gemini.

The part I despise the most is putting them in the closet. I’ve tried many solutions, but I’ve not found any that made the job less tedious.

Heard some guys talking about this… Assuming you had ample counter space, do you want small appliances - toaster, blender, panini press, etc - out on the counter or should they be put put away in a cupboard after use?

Is televised executions going to become the new norm? This feels relateable https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2lY5JZgWvzQ

Looks like I’m going to have to use it :(

I have been searching Amazon, Lowe’s, Home Depot, and several custom cabinets sites and am starting to wonder if this hardware actually exists.

Edit: the duality between “lol get curtains” and helpful things is great. But! I can’t put up curtains on the windows the light floods in - it’s the front door and the sort of side window beside the front door. Since I rent, I’m not going to put holes in the door, nor do I think it would look decent enough not to bother me. But also for those concerned about safety of sidewalks, I don’t have a sidewalk on my side, I’d only be blocking light on the front yard and hopefully into the house. But thanks y’all, this has been helpful:))

It feels like a lot of people are getting into “millennial optimism”, but it feels a lot like hipster shit.

Remembering stuff like Yahoo! And Ask Jeeves, I wonder how Google came to be the company that became ubiquitous for and basically interchangeable with “online search”.

Just wondering as computers are sorta my hobby and i like messing around with different ones. I havent in a while due to prices going up such as with ram usually. I dont mess with new tech, but i want to know what you guys do with the crazy prices out there? or are you already set before prices went up? Or are you just lucky in some form?

A bacteria that can create calories out of thin air sounds like it’d be useful, if true.

I know that both Japanese & Mandarin have a couple of words where it’s a thing, like 施設 (しせつ) from JP which becomes 設施 (shèshī) in ZH, even though they use the same 漢字 since the only difference is that the characters are flipped but retain the same definition between the two languages. Even in Japanese itself there are words where the placement of 漢字 can be reversed, like 礼儀 ("manners") & 儀礼 ("etiquette") for instance.

I see the inverse of this, with native speakers of languages that use ABC (alphabet) to learn a language that’s logographic such as Japanese & Mandarin (since both have 漢字) as a single character is a word (difficult concept for them to grasp at first). However, even if let’s say a Mandarin speaker with zero exposure to English leans ABC for the first time, would the grammar be hard even if they’ve managed to master the alphabet?

K, so, for whatever reason, this decade has been popular for articles from seemingly scientific sources saying that geomagnetic storms are causing negative health effects on the body, through magnetic field fluctuations. I looked it up…..and during the most extreme geomagnetic storms, Earth’s magnetic field fluctuates at a rate of about 500 nanotesla per minute. Is that rate of change enough to induce enough of a current that it acts as a cellular stressor?

Sadly, I read about some punk dressing as a government stooge to harass people casting ballots for a Brazilian election in Miami

There’s been a lot of news regarding Andy Burnham becoming the new PM (is he actually changing anything or is it all talk?), the silly election between Farage and Count Binface, the three sort of maybe pro-independence (or pro-unification in the case of Northern Ireland) of the countries within the UK meeting, Burnham possibly looking to reverse Brexit (big if true), etc. Are referendums on the future of the countries of the UK likely, is the reversal of Brexit likely, what policies has Burnham made to improve standard of living?

Has anyone had experience with reliably exporting their chat history and deleting all messages and interactions throughout servers and DMs in Discord?

I have a younger sibling who watches YouTube all day, and I have just installed (among other things, including Fedora KDE!) FreeTube on their laptop, and it has a convenient profiles feature to separate, for instance, educational and not so educational content.

I mean they kept track of the number of goals and assists , but the default stats for players don’t include the playoff

My mouse is definitely on its last legs and I’ve started watching for sales to pick up a new one. My main question is not which mouse to get, but wired or wireless?

Pet their head, scritch they back, it’s all wiggles.

I know that guys from Japan, China or Korea don’t easily get thick facial hair (as in: having a literal beard) or it’ll take longer to grow in comparison to Euro-Western men for some reason even if both groups didn’t shave, what I mean is in a week: the American guy is starting to grow a beard while the Japanese guy hasn’t gotten it yet despite both waiting 7 days unshaven.

Listening to an Iranian official describe his region as “West Asia” got me wondering if the word “Middle East” is on the outs and why. I suspect Middle East is eurocentric for some reason, but West Asia also preserves Europe as a continent, which is Eurocentric in its own way because Europe is not a continent and never was. If we’re calling anything West Asia, it should be Spain and Portugal.

I enjoy the subjects I majored in, history and geography but something I simply cannot is dealing with bratty children who for whatever reason consider a teacher an enemy.

Hi, I made a post about how I have a chance to study for a semester in Budapest, Hungary and it sounds really cool, but there is one other option and thought I’d ask just so I don’t dismiss it immediately: Reykjavík, Iceland. I also know next to nothing about Iceland, whether it’s safe for students, if it’s welcoming, if it’s a good place for an American to study at, so might as well ask about it as well. It also sounds fascinating admittedly

I’m an American college student who has an option to study abroad in Budapest for a semester and was wondering if Hungary is a good place to study in, like is it safe and are the universities there good? Ive never been to Europe so no idea what to expect

genuinely curious.

I’ve been watching a lot of it recently. It bugs me when someone gets the spirit of the answer right, but they don’t get the point. For example, there was a question asking what scents might remind someone of their partner. The contestant answered “wood”. Now anyone who knows scents and fragrance knows that sandalwood is a very popular scent. That’s obviously what he meant by that, but he doesn’t get the point. Later, someone does get the answer of cologne/body spray.

Just got beaten the 4th time in a row. This time in just 13 total moves despite my slow ‘calculated’ moves. I’ve been playing for over a month now on a Chess game software

Such as using a platform like fiverr for example, is it worth trying or should i stay away? I want to do basic tasks but i dont have a anything yet to showcase. So it may be a bad idea but at the same time i want/need money. I know i could get a job but im in a point in life where i feel i am unable to.

I’m looking to get a degree to better facilitate an exit for myself and significant other from the United States. (Looking at New Zealand, Germany, Ireland) Are online only degrees from the likes of ASU and similar any better or worse than one from in-person universities? (Mechanical or Electrical engineering is the plan)

The reason I ask was wondering if I can help more communities get more traffic and make them more noticied. And maybe a little nod to the communities I mod.

Is it because Japanese pronunciation is easier to pick up than Mandarin? Also, is there a such thing as “Chinese” anime (as in made in China / Taiwan being originally in Mandarin), they do have an equvalent of Manga known as Manhua (漫畫) but is it even popular to the same extent as the Japanese counterparts? Why do those types of foreigners favor Japanese (language) over Mandarin regarding pronunciation?

I’m cleaning my network rack and the filters have obvious caught a lot of dust, which I am happy about, but I wonder why the dust hasn’t been caught evenly. Aren’t the rotors/blades rotating at a fixed RPM?

A New Mexican student is study in my city in Spain, when we met I joked with him “we both republicans, right?”; his answer confirm we both republicans so we never meet again.

I’ve seen a few users who use phonetic symbols or something alike in their posts and comments. What’s the point?

How easy would it be to shutdown “alligator alcatraz”?

I have a feeling that I may know the answer, but also feel uncertain it, I can also do it anyway, but what else is there?

I just saw a person walking around with what looked like a light blue plastic collar around their throat with a valve. I obviously couldn’t upload a picture of it.

I joined this one because I just followed the obvious ways to sign up after looking up what Lemmy was about. I didn’t know about instances until I tried to sign in and had to find mine.

Let’s say I, a middle aged cis man went to my doctor, wanting gender affirming care, and my doctor wanted to provide - what, if anything, would the treatment/care consist of? Just making sure my testosterone level was up to Hegseth-approved standards?

l don’t undersand why we Iive in a worId where capital I and Iowercase l are allowed to Iook near identical. PeopIe are paid to design and seIect fonts and they have aII agreed on this Iudicrous convention.

I know in Japan for instance, there’s a unmanned store where you can buy things with the only thing meeting you near the front entrance & exit is self checkout. It’s a trust based system where you walk in select what you want (without locking any essential or mundane item behind plexiglass), as in they depend on individuals having common sense on not stealing paying via a “honesty box” based on a honor system.

Cartoony fonts, way too much text everywhere, no visual higherarchy, colored rounded boxes, why does it all have seemingly one style rather than having multiple like you see in other ai mediums?

I did try to search for the answer before posting, but I’m not the best at that stuff. Sorry if there’s already an answer for this somewhere.

I mean, what would happen to it after it hit the ground. Would it get eaten by an animal, bacteria, or fungi? Would it just dry out, degrade in the sun, and become dirt?

Also, if French people take the month of August off, who is who is working at restaurants and stores? Do those people take a different month off?
